Ilkley Brewery ~ Deceptively Different

Ilkley Brewery are on a bit of a roll at the moment. Not only are they expanding their brewery - not just plumbing in new tanks, but actually breaking ground and pouring concrete - but the quality and diversity of their range seems to be increasing on an almost weekly basis.

We started stocking them in February 2010, and sales of their beers have grown and grown over the last few years, showing around a fivefold increase in this time. This isn't just us bragging about how much beer we sell, it's also a comment on the quality of Ilkley's beers - people are buying them, drinking them, and coming back for more!

While their classic session ale Mary Jane is a bestseller, it's also their "Origins" range that has seen great growth, launched with Siberia, a rhubarb and vanilla saison brewed in collaboration with beer writer Melissa Cole, and carried on with The Chief, and American-style IPA, The Mayan, a spicy chocolate and chipotle chili stout.

There have also been some interesting diversions along the way. Ilkley Brewery bottled a Speyside whisky under their own branding - labelled as Olicana, the Roman name for Ilkley - and never ones to look a gift horse in the mouth, recycled the cask by filling it with their Siberia saison. And lo, Speyside Siberia was born, a delicate, windswept cask-aged beer tasty of boozy raspberry crumble and custard was created.

From classic golden session ales to slightly more eccentric creations, Ilkley are on a roll. But don't take our word for it - they also scooped medals at the SIBA North East beer competition recently, with Dinner Ale, The Chief, and Holy Cow (their cranberry milk stout - coming soon) all winning medals. Ilkley Brewery are wearing their tagline - Deceptively Different - with pride.
