It's been a long time coming, but finally Outlaw Brewing Co are back in action!
Outlaw are the experimental arm of the celebrated Roosters Brewing Co of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. Founded by brewing legend Sean Franklin, Roosters has recently passed into the stewardship of the Fozard dynasty. Director Ian, and his two sons Tom (brewery manager) and Oliver (head brewer) have breathed new life into the brewery while paying homage to the icon they have acquired.
But this isn't about Roosters - this is about Outlaw! Their first beer back had to be something that would make people sit up and take notice, and they've done that in so many ways. The beer itself fantastic, a golden, 6.2% Mad Hatter Jasmine Green Tea IPA that combines a powerful floral punch with a tropical fruit salad of hops, the jasmine adding a new dimension of flavour, supporting the hop character but not overpowering it.
Mad Hatter was born of a three-way collaboration with beer writer Melissa Cole (author of the much-praised "Let Me Tell You About Beer") and the world-famous tea and coffee merchants Taylors of Harrogate. Add to that the fact that all of the beers in their series will have one-off labels especially commissioned for the beer (this one is by Harrogate-based designer Tom Cutting of The Lift Agency), and you have a concept that not only cuts the mustard, it goes on to smear the mustard all over its body, roll in a box of feathers and shout "LOOK AT ME! I'M UNIQUE!" while running across Knaresborough market square, trying to grab a pint in Blind Jacks, and getting barred for being covered in mustard and feathers.
Outlaw Brewing Co Mad Hatter Jasmine Green Tea IPA (and breathe) is a unique beer, with unique imagery, bottled just once, never to be repeated. The run of 110 cases has sold very strongly, with just less than half left at the time of writing. Please don't delay if you want to grab yourself a one-off piece of the Great British beer revolution - just click here!
Should you be blessed enough to live in Leeds, you can just walk into our bricks-and-mortar Beer-Ritz shop at 14 Weetwood Lane, Headingley and buy it off the shelf.
